People’s Choice Category Winner
Sofia Goosen
Congratulations to the winner of our People’s Choice category, Sofia Goosen, for this beautiful action shot of a Reed Cormorant and Pied Kingfishers. To view the Grand Prize winner, and all other category winners, please head over to our main Photography Competition website here.
Sofia wins a Struik Nature book hamper, consisting of a range of bird and nature books, worth R5 000, as does the lucky voter that was randomly drawn from all votes cast (not just votes for Sofia’s photograph).
Please note the votes have been counted and authenticated by email with online software, and offline manually too. Voting for the People’s Choice category closed at midnight (SAST) on 1 September 2024. Both the People’s Choice winner and the Voting Prize winner will be contacted by email or mobile phone by the end of 2 September 2024.
Welcome to the BirdLife South Africa Photography Competition 2024 – People’s Choice Award!
Please note this voting process determined the winner of the People’s Choice category ONLY, and not the competition’s Grand Prize winner, or other categories’ winners, which were decided by a panel of professional judges. INTRODUCTION
We were once again blown away by the number of entries (and additional donations) received, and are very grateful to everyone who entered their images in support of our work to conserve South Africa’s magnificent birds and their habitats.
After carefully reviewing the almost 3000 photographs entered, we are pleased to display a selection of the competition judges’ shortlist below. This year’s shortlist of images that were in contention for the People’s Choice prize, includes images that were considered by the judges as their top contenders per main category (i.e., Action; Portrait; Birds in the Environment; Garden; and Youth), as there were simply too many incredible photos submitted for us to feasibly display hundreds on this site.
VOTING IS NOW CLOSED!
Members of the public were invited to vote for their favourite image between Monday 26 August and Sunday 1 September 2024. The image with the most legitimate, unique votes as of midnight (SAST) at the end of Sunday 1 September 2024 was crowned the winner of the People’s Choice category (not the Grand Prize category, or other categories, which were decided by our panel of judges). Winners of all other categories and prizes are now displayed on the main Photography Competition website here. Both the People’s Choice category winner and one lucky (randomly-drawn) voter have won a Struik Nature book hamper, consisting of a range of bird and nature books, worth R5 000.
