BirdLife South Africa and the Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) have a strong collaboration and we are grateful for their financial support of several of our research projects and staff positions.

ACSA Collaboration

BirdLife South Africa in return provides ACSA with operational support for their environmental programme, as well as facilitating the training of local guides sourced from communities near the major airports of South Africa. Two projects which are currently underway include the tracking of Grey-headed Gulls at O.R. Tambo International Airport and DNA analysis of bird strike victims.

This collaboration has also produced important management documents such as the National Heronry Guidelines which provide guidance on dealing with human-wildlife conflict associated with colonial breeding waterbirds.
