Royal Jozini Private Game Reserve is situated just across the Golela border (close to Pongola) and is set in the valley below and onto the slopes of the Lebombo Mountains, where the Pongolapoort dam floods northwards into eSwatini. There are 5 different eco systems in the reserve, with a stunning mix of acacia bushveld; fever-tree riverine; Marula forests; open plains and craggy mountain escarpment while the seasonal flood plains on the western shore offer wonderful game viewing. Game is abundant, and includes elephant, buffalo, leopard, zebra, giraffe, wildebeest, water buck, kudu, jackal, hyena, crocodile and hippo.

Royal Jozini is a utopia for bird watching. The water birds often seen are grebes , cormorant and darter, bittern, heron and egrets, hammerkop, Ibis , storks, ducks and geese, as well Jacanas. Then we get the raptors, osprey and the African Fish Eagle plus 37 other species of eagles, kites, vultures, hawks, buzzards and harriers. There are falcons, helmeted and crowned Guinea fowl, cranes and crakes, gallinules and coots, flufftails and finfoots, bustards and buttonquails and a myriad of wading birds.
